Service Deionization

The Benefits of Deionized Water

Deionized water (sometimes referred to as demineralized water or ultra-pure water) is a necessary ingredient for hundreds of processes across a variety of industries. Similar to distilled water, deionized water is highly pure water which has had ionized materials and salts removed. There are various ways in which to achieve this removal and some facilities may require additional polishing steps to control potential biological fouling or other contaminants. Deionization is a popular method of creating high-purity water because it is faster and more cost effective than most other methods. Service Deionization (SDI) and DI Bottles

DI bottles are called many things: DI Tanks, Mixed-beds, resin bottles, cation bottles, anion bottles, dual beds, ion-exchange bottles, etc., and while there are some differences between the processes behind each, the basic principle is the same. Water is passed through a bottle that contains ion exchange resin, and some percentage of, if not all of, the dissolved solids are removed, leading to a more desirable process water.

FCT Water can custom engineer a deionized water system to meet whatever requirements your facility may require. From a system audit and improvement, to a newly constructed system, we can provide a turnkey solution. At our in-house regeneration plant we are able to regenerate and/or re-bed all of the different types of bottles mentioned above, including mixed-bed resin. Our network of warehousing and delivery teams allow us to provide quick turnaround times and excellent customer service. This deionized water bottle delivery service means a consistent stream of ultra-pure water for you, with very little hassle and a plan that fits your specific needs.

Eventually the resin in DI bottles will become exhausted and need to be regenerated. This is done with hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide, depending on the type of resin. For a mixed-bed, which results in the highest purity water, the resin must be removed from the bottle, separated, then treated individually before being mixed back together for use again in the field. A mixed-bed bottle consists of a Strong Base Anion resin, which removes the anions (negatively charged ions) from the water and replaces them with a hydroxide ion (OH-), and a Strong Acid Cation resin, which removes the cations (positively charged ions) from the water and replaces them with a hydrogen ion (H+).

The hydroxyl and hydrogen ion then combine to form water molecules (H+ + OH- —> H20), resulting in high purity water. The contaminants then remain on the resin until the bottles are exchanged and the material is regenerated.

Why choose Deionization Services from FCT Water Treatment?

Service Deionization (SDI) is an efficient and economical way for customers to obtain consistent, high-purity water. Our systems consist of activated carbon and ion exchange resin contained in portable tanks that are connected directly to your water supply. In water treatment, ion exchange is where one contaminant is removed from the water by another substance creating high-purity water.

Some perks of  Service Deionization include:

  • • Largest regeneration plant for deionization bottles in Colorado
  • • Local delivery available in Florida, Illinois, Texas, Northern California, and Colorado
  • • National distribution also available
  • • One of very few companies that specialize in water treatment chemistry along with deionization services
  • • No major capital investment
  • • No upkeep, parts or maintenance of equipment
  • • Guaranteed water purity and flow rates for your specific needs

When deionization tanks are exhausted FCT Water Treatment service technicians replace the exhausted tanks with regenerated tanks, rotating them for maximum throughput. We can integrate into your workflow to ensure you get the water and chemicals you need. Whether you need a custom closed loop system, resin regeneration, or a regular tank exchange, we’ll design a system to meet your needs.
